​The FirstNet network will greatly improve situational awareness in Kentucky Counties, keeping First Responders safer and better connected with an improved communications capability making it possible to use new tools in the field. Real-time data and audio/video feeds sent before, during and after incident response will improve the effectiveness of law enforcement personnel, with the potential for securely accessing digital patient records during medical emergencies. During emergencies, police officers, sheriffs, deputies, and other First Responders need a communication system with priority access and preemption, which is not available on commercial networks.

The NPSBN will not be a money maker for any government entity or jurisdiction. FirstNet intends to offer services at a compelling and competitive cost to attract millions of public safety users to make FirstNet self‐sustaining. Use of FirstNet services and applications will be voluntary.

​KSP is responsible for leading and coordinating the FirstNet planning efforts in Kentucky, and is consulting with state and local agencies, local communities, and first responders to gather requirements for developing its recommendations for the State’s network deployment plans. Collecting information is part of the planning process for Kentucky. Some of the best information available is local. This is your jurisdiction’s opportunity to provide accurate input and be part of the effort across the state. You will also have an opportunity to participate in regional outreach workshops planned for 2015 along with discussions during professional association meetings and conferences.

KSP understands that the information gathering process will take some effort. The FirstNet planning effort in Kentucky includes a contractor partner: Michael Baker Jr., Inc. If any First Responder or stakeholder has questions about the information being requested, they are available by phone to answer questions. When information is requested, we estimate that response time may take 1-2 months. Local jurisdictions are encouraged to call or email KSP with questions about the response time.
